Asylym Reform and the Great Comeuppance of 1894 - or Was It?



This article challenges the notion that S. Weir Mitchell's address in 1894 was a "psychiatry wake up call" and shows the reforms that were already taking place. Students will gain insight in to the conditions of mental asylums prior to the reform movement as well as what was being done after this problem had been exposed to the public.
